On New Year’s Eve in 1983, the original Toledo, Peoria & Western only had a few more hours to survive before becoming part of the Santa Fe. At the East Peoria Yard locomotive facility, GP38-2 No. 2006 is flanked by SW1500s Nos. 303 and 306 on December 31, 1983.

Two Toledo Peoria and Western trains pass over each other at the Farmdale trestle near East Peoria, Illinois. Above is the the Effner Local with GP38-2s Nos. 2002 and 2008, curving over the Morton Switcher with GP18 No. 600. This photo was arranged by McMillan Publications with the cooperation of TP&W (who paused both trains for photos) for the Joe McMillan and Robert P. Olmsted book “The Peoria Way” featuring the railroad. This scene was only possible for 54 days at the end of the TP&W before the merger with Santa Fe at the end of 1983. Recently acquired trackage rights on the lower line via Norfolk and Western used to reach Morton made the shot possible.
