A westbound Rocky Mountaineer Railtours excursion train crosses the Thompson River Canyon on the Canadian National just east of Ashcroft, British Columbia, on September 24, 2015. Canadian Pacific’s main line is in the foreground. On this particular trip, we were calling this train “the screw.” With some imagination the unique paint scheme resembles a giant screw, and also put the screws to freight traffic when it showed up. :)

With four locomotives up front, the eastbound Rocky Mountaineer Railtours passenger train passes below Skihist Provincial Park over Canadian Pacific tracks on September 25, 2015. On the other side of the Thompson River, a Canadian National work train continues loading fallen rock into Difco dump cars in CN’s never-ending battle with nature through this rugged and unforgiving piece of mainline between Morris and Lasha, east of Lytton, British Columbia.

A westbound run of the Rocky Mountaineer follows Amtrak train 5 a few blocks behind (Amtrak was exiting Tunnel 2 while this train approached West Rocky), as it heads upgrade toward Big 10 Curve west of Rocky, Colorado, on October 12, 2022. The west switch of Rocky siding is in the cut above the cab of RMRX GP40-3 No. 8020, while the entire length of Clay…I mean Eisele…siding is on the level above, and will soon be traversed by the tour train.
