The majestic city skyline of San Francisco appears through the fog, seen from Mt. Tamalpais shortly after sunrise. An unwitting adventurer arriving at this vista might liken the golden treasures on the far horizon as the mythical earthly paradise of Shangri-La.
BTW, the tall building under construction will be the 2nd tallest building west of The Mississippi when complete, Salesforce Tower.
Friend Thom Graham had this to say which I thought extremely astute: "The ethereal city of fog illuminated... Above the fray, Salesforce Tower with its outstretched cranes appears as an orchestra conductor preparing for a thunderous overture. "
Lens is the 67 M*300mm f/4 with a 1.4xTC plus a 2.0x TC, yes, a total of 840mm, adapted to the 645Z. Adding a 10" Baskin- Robbins container DIY lens hood to block stray reflections, this Franken-rig is quite a monstrosity. I also cranked up to ISO 1000 to mitigate my shutter speed during a slight breeze and some vibration caused by all the cars and other people moving around.
Hope you like it.

Over to a prior familiar location to watch the post sunset festivities on this quiet little beach at Point Molate in San Pablo Bay. Here, the bridge is just beginning to light up in front of lovely Mt. Tamalpais. I like this beach because it is huge and I never see anyone around, ever. The water laps lazily at the rocks and there's an occasional fish plunk. I've also shot from the bluff above and it is an equally nice view of the bay and bridge.
3-frame pano with the FA31mm, Hoya ND400 9-stop ND, and blue/yellow polarizer to intensify the reflected water. Stitched using Hugin.

A Pano from the Berkeley Hills above the UC campus. This was a foggy night in the city - I started out atop Slacker Ridge in Marin where the fog was dense - but on the east bay hills, things were warm and clear.

The skyline of San Francisco's famous financial district as seen from Pier 14 during evening nautical twilight. This was shot during our Night Eyes Photo Workshop last night with fellow instructor Matt Granz. We were showing our class the many interesting subjects along the waterfront, including the ferry building tower and Sinbad's sign. It is a lovely sight indeed from the end of the pier.
To the far right, one can see the Embarcadero Towers and the tip of the Transamerica building poking up from behind. To the left, more great skscrapers including some elegant condos. Just out of frame to the left is the West anchorage of the Bay Bridge.
My title is a play on the old 1930's song, "Moon Over Miami"
I used the O-GPS1 accessory to plot my exact location on the map.
Lens is the Sigma 10-20 at 10mm. This photo got to #3 on EXPLORE 8/26/12. Thanks!!

The galactic core of the milky way passes behind an ancient Bristlecone Pine tree, high in the White Mountains of California. The inhabitants of this section of forest are up to 5,000 years old, silent witnesses to an ever evolving planet.
Yes, that is Jupiter on the left frame edge and Antares on the right. Sky is classified Bortle-2.
This was a whirlwind trip, i drove 7 hours out, met and shot pictures with Miguel for a couple of hours, then drove back home, all in less than 24 hours. Sleep? Nope. Miguel stayed on to complete the adventure. The original plan was to spend the following evening in Death Valley, but I had a very serious issue with my DFA25/4; the rear plate ripped off, sending loose parts to rattle around inside the lens housing. I thought best to cut bait so as not to add further damage, limiting my chances of repairing the lens.
I used my DFA 35mm f/3.5 on the 645Z. Stack of 20, 10sec exposures, median blended using Sequator. I light painted the tree using my LED panel on a stick.
Hope you enjoy this one!
