The lar, or white-handed, gibbon, is found from western Laos right down to northern Sumatra. There are probably still 15-20,000 in Thailand. I listened several times to their haunting vocalisations in the mornings. The other gibbon I am familiar with, the grey gibbon in Borneo, sings with extended trills, while the lars I heard here were equally vocal, but more staccato.
