I love watching these guys and gals power through the waves. For just a moment it's like they own the sea or at very least have bonded as one. Then wipe out and it all starts over again. Taken at Pacific Beach Pier in San Diego, California. I take about sixty bad one for every winner but its a blast to watch and this one was one of my surf favorites. I love the ballet pose of sorts when he throws that righ hand fowad to balance the rest. Zoom good day out their for the champions of the sea. I took this dynamic action shot some time ago but it is certainly worthy of reposted as it is a thrilling moment in time.

Windy weather was stirring up the sea and I walked out on a local sea wall for some final views of the sunset. Had to get a bit wet as the waves were crashing high on the stones and sending up a salty welcome to us nature loving ocean watchers. Just one of those great moments that come and are gone in a flash.

Here are a few Pacific Ocean facts for you report writers and the curious.
The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. Its name is derived from the Latin name Tepre Pacificum, "peaceful sea", bestowed upon it by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. It extends from the Arctic in the north to Antarctica in the south, bounded by Asia and Australia in the west, and the Americas in the east. At 169.2 million square kilometres (65.3 million square miles) in area, this largest division of the World Ocean – and, in turn, the hydrosphere – covers about 46% of the Earth's water surface and about 30% of its total surface
The motion of Pacific waters is generally clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
So yes, it is big, enormous, a giant, huge but so vulnerable, to the wages of human use by fishing, oil and mineral use, and transportion. Let's all do our best to take care of possibly one of are largest and important gifts and resources, mother father sea.

A good photograph is usually not about the camera but about the study of light and balance of subject matter and composition. I don't often use a tripod myself but they can come in handy if you have a long heavy lens or shot for long time exposures. I like to study the work of other good and great photographers like Eliot Porter, Ansel Adams, Earnst Hass, W. Eurgene Smith and all those great forks who work at National Geographic or back in the days of Life Magazine.
Look thur my own list of favorites up above here and you will be amazed by many of the people who contribute to Flckr as well. Happy shooting and blessings.

Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, is a large canyon, approximately ten miles (16 km) long and up to 3,000 feet (900 m) deep, located on the western side of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. The canyon was formed by a deep incision of the Waimea River arising from the extreme rainfall on the island's central peak, Mount Waiʻaleʻale, among the wettest places on earth.
Its easy to visit and only about a 1 to two hour travel time journey depending on your island location.
Because its one of the rainiest places on earth its often best to go early in the day before the afternoon showers. You may hike in the canyon if you travel to Koke'e State Park.

High desert landscapes outside San DIego California contain amazing displays of huge monster boulders that seem planted in a zen garden of creative shapes. I call these two the twin arcs. Few people come to hike here where little rain ever falls and wind and time are the artists at work.
