It's not really a castle but I like that name. Just behind this sandstone formation is a winding trail which climbs up about 800 feet to a great lookout for dolphins, whales if you are lucky and the great shoreline . These formation cumble gradually and sometimes quickly after the winter storms. Dont walk to close to the cliff base.

Don't walk too close to the edge these cliff faces have been known to cruble. Still this is a lovely and safe walk for people of all ages. This hike can start just north of the famous golf course or from the nature center farther south. From here you can wander farther west and take the trail to the flat rock beach and keep an eye out for dolphins jumping or whales but more likely you will spot surfers, hawks, crows, and wrens. There is an occassional bench to rest at and gaze at the Pacific blue waters and meditate in your own quiet way at the blessings and beauty of mother nature.

Well this is one of my sacred spots that I keep taking over and over in different variations. Its a a spot called flat rock. The sky has been absent of clouds for a long time so I set my point of view toward the sea. I'll go back again if I can catch the combination of clouds, low tide and some sun but this will do in the meantime. What is your favorite spot? I have others but this is one of them for sure.

One of California's finest state parks is surrounded by 2 million people but inside the parklands you'll feel nature's bliss in all directions. This view is from an easy 3 mile roundtrip hike to the cliffs edge. You can also hike to the beach on most days but up here you might spy dolphins or whales or a very lucky day.
