Santa Cruz, California is rightly known for its coastal beauty. This land arch and bridge is not the most famous in town but its a fine place to water at work as it sculpts towers, arches, and a wilderness of coastline for tourist, animals, students and all.

Also here is a Flckr link to a very beautiful song video.

Windy weather was stirring up the sea and I walked out on a local sea wall for some final views of the sunset. Had to get a bit wet as the waves were crashing high on the stones and sending up a salty welcome to us nature loving ocean watchers. Just one of those great moments that come and are gone in a flash.

Here are a few Pacific Ocean facts for you report writers and the curious.
The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceanic divisions. Its name is derived from the Latin name Tepre Pacificum, "peaceful sea", bestowed upon it by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. It extends from the Arctic in the north to Antarctica in the south, bounded by Asia and Australia in the west, and the Americas in the east. At 169.2 million square kilometres (65.3 million square miles) in area, this largest division of the World Ocean – and, in turn, the hydrosphere – covers about 46% of the Earth's water surface and about 30% of its total surface
The motion of Pacific waters is generally clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
So yes, it is big, enormous, a giant, huge but so vulnerable, to the wages of human use by fishing, oil and mineral use, and transportion. Let's all do our best to take care of possibly one of are largest and important gifts and resources, mother father sea.

We were motoring in Central California a few weeks back and it was glorious, green and lush. This is just a tad blurred as we were zooming by at 60 mph and I was clicking like a madman. This was one of the winners that didnt have telephone pole or a bush in the way. Makes me want to stop and pour a glass of chardoney.

I was up here on a very warm day with no clouds which made the hazy bright light tricky to make a good photo in. Still it was a wonderful experience and I wish I had more time to visit this gem of a national park. This meadow was high at about 8,000 feet. Mount Lassen is in the background. It last exploded in 1915 and maybe this is what Mount Saint Helens will look like in a hundred years.
The student scientests and explores in the photo were conducting some college field studies. Autumn had just begun so the colour was not full yet but this spot was calling me to record it. The peak is over ten thousand feet but hiking trails up are closed due to rockslides. There are some fine hikes.
The park gets a ton of snow in winter so the road close from about mid November to May. There is a lot of geology to learn here and several trails have good education guides on the types of volcanic rock. The park actually has five volcano mountains, all are dormant now. It is part of the Cascade range not the Sierra Nevada. About an hour drive from Redding or three hours from the San Francisco Bay area.
Campers and hikers dont have worry about crowds. A great place for a vacation or road trip , plenty of curvy bends, and pull offs at mud pots, surfer springs and craggy vistas. Go and enjoy.

Be a hero - DONATE BLOOD - it's safe and fun -really!
