"It's just lunch," you say. And yes. That's exactly what it was: a perfectly ordinary lunch date with a friend... on the outside. But on the inside? A wonderfully sublime reminder that I deserve to be out and about, that I feel natural and comfortable and confident, and that... this is normal.
We had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory in Fashion Valley, with good company and conversation. A quick photo on the way out, then on to Niemann-Marcus on a whim. Why not? It was only 75 yards from the car door! Chatted with a couple of salesladies; asked about a personal shopper who could help me with more casual styles; two sales*men* complimented me on my shoes and accessories. ;). And of course, more photos.
I must remind myself that the hours of butterflies and the restless nights leading up to these outings are wasted energies, because those same anxieties evaporated as soon as I left my door. Literally. Was I "clocked"? Undoubtedly. In fact, it's easier for me to just be ME - the trans me that I am - rather than desperately hoping to pass. I was treated with respect, and the smiles that greeted me were genuine.
It was a wonderful day. And we all deserve as many of them as possible. I, for one, pledge to snatch as many of these experiences as I can.
Thanks for the support, and your continued indulgence of my little diaries! And remember, be true to yourselves, and I'll do the same!
Kisses,
Amanda Nicole
