This fountain is located in downtown Portland. Keller Fountain is often noted as a memorable feature of the public landscape in downtown Portland, and in 1999 was awarded a medallion from the American Society of Landscape Architects. The fountain was designed by Angela Danadjieva using inspiration from waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge located east of Portland. While the park is named Keller Fountain Park, the fountain itself is named Ira Keller Fountain.

I was drawn to this fountain after I saw the fantastic work of Victor von Salza, a Portland staple on Flickr.

Funny, it was rainy that night and I took the time to keep an umbrella over my head but still came away soaked because I spent some time in the fountain to get the right angle.

Not much of a story here. I am not a big animal-shooting guy. I certainly don't seek them. However, when one crosses my path, I am not going to pass up the chance. Here I wish I could say this was the result of an expedition into the hills. No. There was an animal-jam on the dirt road in Badlands so we stopped. I got out to find there was a lot of Big Horn sheep. As I started shooting they were walking right towards me. I had the 600 on, so I guess sit was my lucky day. Sometimes luck is as good as skill. Enjoy the babies.

I posted a panorama shot from this location previously, along the great Jersey shores, of the Statue of Liberty juxtaposed against the NYC skyline. She was a little hard to see though in that image. She was small. This image, shot the same night, gets you a lot closer.

The location is magical in its view, but hard to shoot. We were out on a very, very industrial pier/ jetty thing (quite sure there is a more technical name for it), standing on breakwater rocks along the shore of the Hudson. True to form, the place was as dirty as you may expect an industrial Jersey shore on the Hudson to be. After all, I recall Will Smith saying in the movie Hitch, after his jet ski stalled, that he probably sucked a diaper into the motor. Well, it was like that here. Step cautiously. The water was calm that night, so we had that going for us, no splashes. The real issue was the angle. You can't see Lady Liberty's face. So we walked down, further, further, until we could not go any further. Still, just her armpit, like she was doing a deodorant commercial. So we are now standing at the end of the breakwater. I was hoping for just one fraction of additional view, and hoping my waterproof shoes would do their job. I actually ventured out into the Hudson. Brave? Foolish? Not real deep or anything, but certainly far enough to get very wet feet.

So I thought the title for the image was fitting, because I could hear Lady Liberty saying, "If I can stand in this river, so can you!" I could have just been hearing voices from the toxic shock caused by standing in the Hudson. Don't know.

You do end up seeing a bit of her nose, so that's a win. I also got her against the Empire State Building this way, that's a HUGE win! So I got an extra few toes out of the deal, but an image that I am proud of. Enjoy!

We set out seeking a snow covered waterfall. Koosah Falls seemed like it would be good. Those of you who know the Mackenzie River know this is not Koosah falls, this is the nearby Sahalie Falls. We hiked to Koosah and I may post some from there too, but this one was just too much fun to shoot, I could not pass it up.

If you have been there you know there is a viewing platform for the less brave, and a trail down the hill to the waters edge for the foolish. Why foolish? Well, when it snows, the snow drifts near this very misty falls get a coating of ice from the mist. That makes the hike essentially a slide, a slide that ends in a freezing river. This image makes it look like there is not that much snow, but it sure seemed like a lot that day.

While I was shooting this image, it was the usual wipe, shoot, wipe shoot. But this time it was wiping off ice from the glass. The best part was after I stood there for 20 minutes setting up the shot, when I got up to leave, the camera bag, my jacket, my beard, everything was coated with a layer of ice. Just the price I had to pay I suppose.

So many caves in Canada, so little time. This is Resurgence Cave on Vancouver Island. I was using lights to shoot into the cave from the outside in. I was outside and so I asked my wife to place the light inside for me. That shot ended up being junk, the funny part was my wife was up the stairs and I had to go get the light. I could see it, but I have no idea how my limber, fit wife got wayyyyyy over there to place the light. It was across a waterfall, a river, over slippery rocks, and up a cave wall. How did she manage to get it over there, did she use a drone? It took me about 15 minutes to get to where the light was, and then I had to get back!

This image is a tough 9 bracket exposure, blended. Let me know what you think.
