This old concrete building on W. Main was the home of Booker Furniture. On the day I passed through town, liquidation sale signs were still in the windows, although the business has been closed for some time.

In addition to Booker's, this is what remains of the commercial buildings on W. Main. The single-story building seen second from left appears to have replaced an older two story structure on the same site. The two buildings closest to the camera appear to be from the late 19th century.

A view of the same commercial block, only now we are viewing it looking west on W. Main from 1st St. (originally called 1st Cross St.)

On the corner is Abe's Hideout and Saloon, a restaurant and bar. Mechanicsburg seems to have an abundance of old buildings, but I'm just about certain this one is the oldest surviving commercial structure in town. It dates back to at least 1865, and could be a decade or two older. The building was originally Beck's Dry Goods Store. I love the painted Lincoln mural on the S. 1st St. side of the building.

This small brick building probably served a commercial purpose at one time. I love the look of it, and I bet it has been a fixture of Mechanicsburg for well over one-hundred years. It is located on the north side of W. Main just west of the Post Office.
