A view of the impressive Henry County Courthouse in Cambridge, Illinois. Construction on the three-story, Second Empire style building commenced in 1878 and was completed in 1880. The courthouse was designed by T.J. Tolan & Son, Architects of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tolan and his son were noted for designing municipal and local government buildings, including courthouses and jails. The Henry County Courthouse is considered to be one of their most notable works.
This is the fourth courthouse used in Henry County and the second built in Cambridge. The courthouse's four facades each feature three pavilions, one at the center and one at each edge; the main facade on the east side has a clock tower atop its central pavilion. The building's mansard roof includes several dormers and is surrounded by a denticulated cornice. Decorative stone elements such as moldings, belt courses and quoins are used throughout the building.
The Henry County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The monument in the foreground, dedicated in 1885, honors the soldiers' and sailors' from Henry County who fought in the Civil War.

Sitting catty corner northeast of the historic Henry County Courthouse is the Gruey Memorial Library in Cambridge. The two-story, red brick library was formally dedicated on February 15, 1929 when Constant I. Gruey presented the library to the village as a gift from himself and his late wife, Henrietta. This view shows the original entrance to the library that once had two set of stairs leading up to the first floor balcony. The Gruey Memorial Library building is now part of the Cambridge Public Library District.
The population of Cambridge at the 2020 census was 2,086.
