A view of the present-day Fredericksburg Memorial Library in Fredericksburg, Texas. Designed by Alfred Giles, this Romanesque Revival style limestone structure was constructed in 1882 as the Gillespie County Courthouse. The building served this function until 1939, when the current courthouse was built.

Over the next quarter century, this building saw a variety of uses until its state of disrepair forced it to be condemned in 1963. Fortunately, the building was restored in 1967 as a home for the Fredericksburg library, a gift from Texas Instruments founder and Dallas philanthropists Mr. & Mrs. Eugene McDermott. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

The Romanesque Revival style Bank of Fredericksburg was designed by Alfred Giles in 1897. Giles also designed the 1882 Gillespie County Courthouse, now repurposed as the Pioneer Memorial Library. The old bank building today is the home of Headquarters Hats, a western wear shop offering custom hats, boots, and other creative "cosas."

A view of the former Keidel Memorial Hospital on E. Main St. in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas. Constructed in 1909, this building was built for Dr. Albert Keidel, son of Fredericksburg's first physician, Dr. Wilhelm Victor Keidel. Keidel Memorial Hospital served the people of Fredericksburg until the larger and more modern Hill Country Memorial Hospital opened in 1971. Today the repurposed building is a tourist draw for a gourmet kitchen store known as Der Kuchen Laden, owned by the granddaughter of Dr. Victor Keidel, and for the Rathskeller, a restaurant offering German and American plates.
