JSC2009-E-245676 (18 Nov. 2009) --- At the U.S. Army's White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, most of the Pad Abort-1 (PA-1) flight test vehicle is shown in the final integration and test facility during preparations for the test. The nose cone is in the foreground, crew module to the right and the partial launch abort system on the left. The integrated flight test will evaluate the ability of the launch abort system to pull an astronaut crew to safety in the event of an emergency on a launch pad.
