Ensenada, Mexico
Our experience in Ensenada was far from enjoyable, as we never felt entirely safe from the moment we arrived. When our bus stopped to allow us to explore the town, one of the first things we noticed—aside from the numerous vendors trying to sell goods—was the presence of two police cars parked nearby, seemingly observing the area.
While the local people were friendly, their approach was very assertive, with vendors persistently inviting us into their shops. However, most stores sold similar items, and much of the street vendor's merchandise appeared to be counterfeit, such as sunglasses and sports apparel. For instance, we saw “Ray-Ban” sunglasses being sold for as little as $10 USD.
The most unsettling moment occurred when we saw a police officer standing on the back of a truck, armed with a machine gun—an unusual and disconcerting sight during a casual shopping trip. Maybe we were just out of our comfort zone, but if you don’t feel safe, then it kinda makes sense to go back to where you do and for us that was the ship…
Overall, our visit to Ensenada did not meet our expectations, and the experience left us feeling uncomfortable and unwilling to explore further. Again this might be just down to us, for all we know it maybe a charming place..
