"I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders” - Atlas
Designed and folded by me from a single uncut square sheet of bicolored tracing paper (blue/white)
Paper size : 25cm x 25cm
Model size : 8 cm
20x20 Grids Boxpleated
A small tribute to Mr. Jun Mitani, ORIPA's creator, without which saving CPs would be backbreaking! The Earth here is inspired by his Spiral designs. The pleats work well to look like longitudes.
Yes, I know Atlas was holding the Heavens not Earth, but, how does one fold the heavens?!
The Earth map could've been more accurate, but I was satisfied with 20 grids. Maybe a V2 someday...
In a way, it's a combo of Mr. Joisel and Mitani's styles, my hand only being a medium!
Hope you all like it :)

I'd been wanting to fold this for so long, and thanks to Ynon's CFC Challenge, finally got around completing this. Why Venus? Due to these stories I'd read sometime ago -
1st - Simonetta, the Renaissance Model, causing heartbroken Amerigo Vespucci to go on a voyage to the New World - lending his name to the "Americas" (legend)
2nd - November 7, 1357, Sienna ordered removal of Venus statue "because it seems indecent", and thought this idol worship had caused Sienna to be under attack (history)
3rd - Boticelli burning many of his "sinful" paintings at the February 7, 1497 Bonfire of Vanities, except "Birth of Venus" (legend)
For the Black/Gold fold, I'd taken inspiration from this - blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9xFIE...
Something I'd seen on twitter.
Color change is useful here. Everyone's beautiful!
[That's why I submitted 2 folds of the same design]
Having said that, I seem to have butchered the faces. But still, I'm happy with the design. A bigger paper will solve this problem :)
Hope you all like it!

This was supposed to be Mother Mary and Baby Jesus, but I hesitate to name it as such - it's a bad attempt. Moreover, I only later checked that Mary was quite young when Jesus was born...here she looks very aged 😔.
Also, this was the inspiration behind this melancholic look -
