The Filzen Roamers (Story)

Year-in, year-out, the same few old boys roam the Gaißacher Filzen. Some old men, one of whom is me. Come rain or shine, we will be there, because no home can compete with that delightful patch of nature. (The Gaißacher Filzen is right next to my home. I chose that home because i liked the Filzen, not because i liked the home.)

Those old boys and i have met several hundred times over the years, but never has there been any talk. We greet each other of course, as is custom in these parts; we nod and we may risk a trace of a smile. That's it.

One of those old Filzen roamers is a weathered guy with a dog called "Bonny", as i know from his calls. On one beautiful winter day recently, this guy passed me on the open field. At that moment i was lying on the ground, digging into the snow, trying to capture the Gaißacher Filzen's snow cover from an avalanche victim's angle; his dog jumped at me cheerfully, hoping to join in for a session of fun rabbit-chasing.

"Bonny - stop! Bonny!"

Finally he made an approach and started to talk. To me!

"Oh, i have to start snapping again too", he went. According to him, the Gaißacher Filzen is one special dish for the discerning photographer.

"There are three reasons why i could take pictures here every day", he continued. He listed his reasons as follows:

"1: The immense landscape."
"2: The thoughts that go along with the landscape."
"3: Something new together with landscape and thoughts every time."
