On a summer's evening in May 1988, the nominally daily MGR 7O85 Toton to Northfleet heads south past the switched out signal box at Neasden Junction behind large loco liveried 56097.

The train is heading for the Blue Circle cement works at Northfleet providing coal to operate the kilns at the plant.

Neasden Junction is on the freight only line connecting the Midland mainline at Cricklewood with the Great Western mainline and the Southern Region via Kew.

Surprisingly, in early 2022 the three signal boxes on this route at Dudding Hill, Neasden Junction and Acton Canal Wharf are all still operational.

This image re-processed and uploaded again in March 2022.

One of the only freight trains to use HS1, the 0535 Dollands Moor to Ripple Lane has just crossed over the Medway Viaduct in Kent.

The train is returning from Almeusafes, near Valencia to Dagenham in Essex. The flow conveys engines from the Ford factory at Dagenham to Ford's assembly plant in Valencia, and runs via the channel tunnel as well as performing an axle change at Cerbère on the Spanish/French border to swap between Iberian and standard gauge.

92015, one of a small number of DB Cargo class 92s fitted with HS1 TVM430 compatible signalling equipment provides the motive power.

91114 'Durham Cathedral' is 75 metres above a serene North Sea while working the 0615 Doncaster to Edinburgh service.

The angular headland on the left of the frame, Marshall Meadows Point is in England whereas the train has crossed the border into Scotland.

For 5 miles north of Berwick Upon Tweed the East Coast Mainline twists and turns along the cliff tops of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders before heading north west through the rolling countryside of the Borders towards Edinburgh

On April Fool’s day in 2019, the sun has set and cloud is building. At least one fool has stayed out to capture this after sun image.

Two photographers capture a nuclear flask train approaching Abbotswood Junction in Worcestershire.

68018 'Vigilant' and 68016 'Fearless' were working 6M63, the 1200 Bridgwater to Crewe Coal Sidings, conveying four nuclear flasks from Hinkley Point B power station for re-processing at Sellafield.

The two reactors at Hinkley Point B were shutdown in the summer of 2022, with the reactors being de-fuelled over the next 3 or 4 years.

This was my first day of railway photography in 2023. While the weather was considerably more cloudy than forecast, luck was with me and the cold January light illuminated most of the trains I photographed.
