SS Maheno broke a tow-cable in a typhoon in 1935 and landed on the 75 mile eastern beach of Fraser Island, unable to be refloated. She was the worlds first triple-screw steamer, converted to a hospital ship in WWI, transporting wounded from ANZAC Cove, Gallipoli.
