Receiving a rich assortment of gouache paints this Christmas, I decided it was time to study the great masters who usually painted in oils.
Gouache paints are an opaque (not transparent) watercolor medium. I'd had a bit of experience playing with it before, but now it was time to really invest time working with the materials.
For my first all gouache work, I chose the painting of Woman in a Purple Coat. This work, painted in 1937, was of the artist's assistant, Lydia Delectorskaya.
Much has been written about the great artist. Little has been written about Ms. Delectorskaya. Perhaps your curiosity has been piqued. If so, here is a link for you.

"The more you know, the more you can create. There's no end to imagination in the kitchen."
Julia Child
I believe that Julia Child was referring to the cooking process being involved in imagination. However, often I am easily distracted from the task at hand.
Being in the kitchen with sliced food or small kitchen tools, I see those items as photographic subjects. I think it's good to let one's imagination run wild...within limits, I suppose. :)
