Pretty dumb settings on the camera for this picture resulting in some fairly extreme noise. I blame the early morning after the 'refreshments' the evening before!

Pencil Pine Creek flows through a relatively steep-walled gully and has four small waterfalls in a short distance.

These are Pencil Pine Falls from the south bank.

Hope folk won't be sick of these falls by the end of the series :-P

Tasmanian Mountain Pepper (Tasmannia lanceolata)

This one covered in frost! The mountain pepper is native to south eastern Australia and is found in cool temperate rainforest.

The fruit is finding its way into locally distilled gin - to good effect :-)

Here they are finally, Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake. This pair would have to be the single most photographed combination in Tasmania. Normally in winter, the peaks would be covered in snow but the morning when this was taken - crystal clear blue sky.

Cradle Mountain is actually the right hand (west) side of the two peaks. The other is known as 'Little Horn'. The view is also flanked by Hanson's Lookout (left) and Marion's Lookout. Glacier Rock at lower left. Other notable items - the unconformity that Little Horn sits on - the horizontal strata is sandstone while the peak is comprised of dolerite. A couple of the walking tracks around the lake and peaks can be picked out as well.

The whole centre of Tasmania was subject to sheet glaciation in the last ice age with Cradle Mt. being the source for a number of large glaciers. Dove Lake is dammed by a moraine and most of the exposed bedrock exhibits sign of the significant movement of ice.

What to do when the same setting produces the same elements but in new combinations? Post anyway.

Here again are Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake at the northern end of the Cradle Mt. Lake St Clair National Park. Normally in winter, the peaks would be covered in snow but the morning when this was taken - crystal clear blue sky.
