I like wide views and I also like beautifully made objects so I got hold of a very clean FujiFilm TX-1 and an accompanying Fujinon EBC 45/2 lens. The camera is also known as the Hasselblad XPAN as the camera is a collaboration between Fujifilm and Hasselblad.

It is an analogue camera i.e. it takes film. It also shoots in a narrow strip at 65 x 24mm. Compositionally challenging in some respects. However, plenty has been written about these cameras already so not going there.

I thought I learned on film 50 odd years ago but digital showed I didn't learn that much really. Now I am learning all over again.

I have but two keepers from the first roll of 20 images. This one taken leaving a restaurant after lunch to test the capabilities of the camera in hard backlighting and the bokeh of the lens.

Fujifilm TX-1, EBC 45/2, Ilford HP5+, 1/250th sec at f/4, ISO 400.

Not sure of the developer and scanner details as yet (as the local lab - Walsh Optics - did them) but will make a note for any future posts.

The window ledge in my bedroom is almost full of pebbles, shells, coral and similar beach finds.

I've learnt that one shouldn't actually pick up mathoms like I have in the past so I guess my mission now is to return them from the places all over the world from whence they came...

Seems like as good an excuse as any!

Second pic from my very clean copy of a FujiFilm TX-1 and an accompanying Fujinon EBC 45/2 lens. The camera is also known as the Hasselblad XPAN as the camera is a collaboration between Fujifilm and Hasselblad.

Fujifilm TX-1, EBC 45/2, Ilford HP5+, 1/25th sec at f/4, ISO 400.

Crossing Hobart's Tasman Bridge aka "The Bridge" at some times of the year is pretty interesting to say the least. This frame was inspired by driving over the bridge just before sunset and noticing that within a couple of days, the sun would set behind kunyani/Mt Wellington directly in line with the centre lane of the roadway.

After working out where to stand and what time to be there with the ephemeris app on the phone, I went back the next evening and shot this with the TX-1/XPAN. Pretty happy how it came out but judging by the remaining frames on the roll, mastering the composition of this legendary beast will take a bit of time.

Fujifilm TX-1/Hasselblad XPAN, Fujinon 45/4, 1/1000th sec at f/16, Kodak TMAX 400

TMAX might not be the best choice for hard contre jour even tho the high ISO handled the direct sunlight pretty well. Have some XP2 in the can at the mo so we'll see how that goes.

The Tasman Bridge, spanning the Derwent River, Hobart, Tasmania. A wet and windy night.

From the first roll out of a new/old camera - a Zenza Bronica S2A. Had to give it a thorough CLA first as well as strip the Nikkor-D 40/4 down to clean some nasty fungus affecting the inner elements. Bit of a saga getting the lens apart but fortunately the glass was undamaged by the growth.

Apart from the blown highlight, was pretty happy with the three night frames I took from the first roll - all of the bridge. Daylight stuff not so much.

Bronica S2A, Nikkor-D 40mm f/4, ~6 secs at f/11, Ilford Delta 400. Bronica Y2 Filter.
