Last light of the day.

Strathgordon, South West Tasmania.

Shot this with a tweaked 'positive film' in-camera preset as JPG along with the RAW.

Has been a fun exercise messing with the colours in LR to match the jpg. Every time I think I've got it... I haven't! This is pretty close tho :-)

Something a bit different - a landscape of droplets on red plastic.

Had the (mis)fortune to be working on the plastic, prepping an art installation for Hobart's annual DARK MOFO. Rained pretty much the whole time and we were well over it by the end.

For this pic however, the sun came out for a few moments and the 'art' was hard to pass up!

Russell Falls at the entrance to Mount Field National Park.

Have recently posted a couple of frames of this waterfall from different visits - both with only a little water going over them.

Called in on spec on this occasion and was rewarded with flat, somewhat gloomy light but a reasonable flow down the waterfall.

Now here's the thing - I took this pic with the little Ricoh GRiii while making a long exposure with the big 6x9 Fuji.

The film images are blown (another story for a later post) but this one was hand held (braced on the handrail of the platform) with the Ricoh's onboard ND filter in play.

Pretty happy. Colour again influenced by the jpg Positive Film sim I've got running in the Ricoh.

A logging coup in the middle of a section of regrowth forest in the Styx/Florentine/Tyenna river valleys. The entire view has been logged previously over most of the 200 odd years of Tasmania's settlement by whiteys.

The clearing pattern is intended to provide habitat for wildlife while also providing protection from fire and disease. If you look closely (press "L" on your keyboard), it's possible to make out the patterns of clearing and reforesting with natural regrowth or plantation/monoculture, all the way into the mist where the Mt Field National Park hides under the clag.

Forestry is a source of revenue to the state through royalties and also provides a number of jobs for contractors and downstream processing. Depending on exactly who is holding the mic, the value of the resource left growing or felled and the downstream value in jobs in forestry or tourism or other industries vary wildly. The opportunities to mislead, lie or troll by vested interests are never passed up.

The simple truth is the earth is FINITE and perhaps the self-interested should start thinking about their legacy not their lifestyle. LOL

Ferns and mosses on a fallen tree, deep in the heart of the Styx Valley in southern Tasmania.

The area has been extensively logged but a tiny remnant of the original cool temperate rainforest exists as a reserve for big trees.

The Big Tree reserve is easily accessible to Hobart - only slightly over an hour's drive to be surrounded by a forest so much older than you. If you visit Mount Field National Park then it behooves you to do the extra 30mins up the road into the Styx Reserve. After a visit it's not hard to see why the logging of these forests has been a source of unrest for many years.
