~Not Yet~

I almost said, "I can't" today.
It sat on the tip of my tongue.
It lingered in every breath that I took
and it roared inside of my lungs.
I felt my bones weaken,
I felt my mind churn and
every right thing turned to wrong.
I stifled my praise as I counted the ways
I had once again failed to be strong.

But a faint voice inside me,
a spirit of truth,
began stirring like winds made of thunder.
It urged me to sit in the still of my heart
and rephrase the words pulling me under.

So instead of "I can't", I whispered--
"not yet", my voice trembling but sure.
And perhaps "I'm not able" is merely
a fable of things I've been asked
to endure.
