Hawker Hurricane P2902 was built in 1939 as a Mk.1 by Gloster Aircraft and first flew in October of that year starting life with 245 Squadron at Drem in Scotland flying shipping patrols. On May 31 Hawker Hurricane P2902 carrying the code DX and R for Robert was heading for the French coast to provide cover for the evacuation of thousands of allied troops trapped on the shore around Dunkirk. Pilot Officer Kenneth McGlashan engaged a Messerschmitt 109 who managed to hit the Hurricane. The badly injured pilot managed to bring the damaged aircraft down to crash land on a beach in Dunkirk, where it remained until recovered by French enthusiasts in 1988. It was obtained some time later by warbird operator Rick Roberts who subsequently employed the services of several restorers before finally engaging Hawker Restorations, where it was returned to flying condition.
