Class 52s Nos. D1010 Western Campaigner and D1048 Western Lady head west from Bristol in the wake of the "Western Tribute" railtour, which had passed through a short while before. These locomotives had been provided as backup in case either D1013 or D1023 were to fail whilst hauling the special train. The viewpoint is below Bath Road bridge and the date was Saturday 26th February 1977.

The railmen on board Class 40 No. 40057 have serious expressions as they wait to take the 11:50 from Glasgow Central over the Settle & Carlisle line towards the train's final destination at Nottingham. Departure couldn't have been quite as imminent as it looks because my notes record that I took the train as far as Skipton. Carlisle station, Wednesday 20th July 1977.

Or thereabouts. Class 50 No. 50040 is ready to leave Bristol Temple Meads with the 14:15 service to London Paddington on Sunday 28th August 1977. This is a fairly unremarkable shot of a "50" at platform 3, but what possibly makes it more interesting is the glimpse of the John Menzies newspaper stall in the distance, right, and the red and yellow buffet signs on both platforms. The newsagent moved off the platform to the other side of the ticket barriers years ago, and is now a W H Smith.

If I have done my research correctly, a headcode of "90" in the South Western section of the Southern Region meant a service between Waterloo and Weymouth Quay. I think this is the up Channel Islands boat train on Monday 18th August 1975 at Bournemouth Central. It could be a day or so either side, and the Class 74 is probably 74004 but could equally be 74010 or 74008; unfortunately my records are unclear on this point. Photo taken whilst on a family holiday in nearby Boscombe, which we did a few times in the 'seventies.
Thanks to yellowvanman for pointing out that this is in fact a DOWN train!
