Inverse footprints on a dune?

The windward side of a small dune on Chesterman beach near Tofino BC. I think these formations are the wind-eroded traces of footprints in the sand. The foot pressure compacted the sand, making it more resistant to erosion as the dune is sculptured and moved by the wind. The slip face of this dune is outside the left edge of the picture.

Maybe I am wrong.
