A helical sea shell that has been naturally abraded to show the inside structure. A small pebble has been trapped.

Mochaware dendritic pattern

A dendritic pattern on a sample of mochaware pottery. The red color come from iron oxide which is mixed in a "tea" made of boiled tobacco juice. The pattern comes from a contact line instability. The whole thing is about 2 cm across.
