New York Guard, the State’s Volunteer Defense Force, for its first time were the host State Defense Force for the State Guard Association of the United States (SGAUS) Annual Conference, which was held from 17-20 November 2022 in Albany, New York. There are currently twenty-two state defense forces nationwide.

The weekend conference included training sessions for Military Emergency Management Specialist (“MEMS”) Academy, Engineering, Cyber, Communications, Public Affairs, JAG, Chaplain, and a nation-wide Cyber and communications/ competition exercise with State Defense Forces and National Guard forces nationwide.

The mission of the State Guard Association of the Unites States (SGAUS) is to advocate for the advancement and support of regulated state military forces established by state governments under the authority of Title 32, Section 109, of the United States Code.
