The dome above what was once the main reading room of the Gould Memorial Library. Designed in 1900 by architect Stanford White based on Rome's Pantheon. Originally there was a circular skylight in the ceiling which has been closed off and really bad lighting installed. Currently the building is empty and badly deteriorated. Last year we were allowed to roam through, this year it was ground floor only.

The base of a lamp post caught my eye on the campus of Bronx Community College. The College was originally built as part of New York University and known as the University Heights Campus. The original buildings were designed by architect Stanford White of the firm McKim, Mead and White.

Other campus buildings including White's masterpiece The Gould Memorial Library and the Hall of Fame for Great Americans were all accessible for Open House New York 2016.

Portrait bust of artist James Abbot McNeill Whistler by sculptor Frederick MacMonnies installed in the Hall of Fame for Great Americans at Bronx Community College

The plaque underneath the sculpture reads "Nature contains the elements in color and form, of all pictures, as the keyboard contains the notes of all music. But the artist is born to pick and choose and group with science, these elements that the result may be beautiful."

A couple strolls through the Hall of Fame for Great Americans on the Bronx Community College campus. The collanade was designed by Sanford White to soften and disguise the back of the Gould Memorial Library
