A herd of 100 elephants has been installed in New York. Each elephant is based on an actual elephant living in the Nilgiri Hills of Southern India. Indigenous artistans created the sculpture using dried lantana camara, an invasive toxic shrub that is destroying wildlife habitats. The sculptures are for sale to raise money for conservation organizations across the world.
The elephants began their journey in Newport, Rhode Island, will be in New York for a few weeks before moving on to Miami, The Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Montana and Los Angeles.
