Maj. Doug Christerson (left), of Anderson, Mo., and Sgt. 1st Class Ricky Owens (right), of Yukon, peel carrots during a vegetable canning class at Oklahoma State University. Both are members of the 1-45th Agricultural Development Team (ADT), Oklahoma National Guard. The team will be deploying to Afghanistan later this year to teach Afghani farmers how to increase their overall food production and improve food safety. In his civilian career, Christerson serves with the Oklahoma Army National Guard’s plans on operations section and Owens is an Army National Guard Career Counselor.
