Paint Mines Interpretive Park in Calhan, Colorado, about 45 minutes east from Colorado Springs. The area is made of colorful clays that have been mined for bricks, pottery, and pigments for millennia. There are several archeological sites in the park from different historic and prehistoric periods. Visit at at sunrise or sunset. The light becomes flat very quickly as the sun goes up and colors fade.
