I managed to find one actual combat report on Mr. Doreston "John" Johnson, USMC, WWII, Solomon Islands Campaign, Aug. 23-25, 1942 on board the USS Enterprise. He had just turned 19 years of age. Even I cannot imagine the horror he had seen nor the terror he endured; however, he quietly took it to his resting place. May he finally rest in peace. Thank you, Mr. Johnson, for what we have around us today.

It was an honor to watch a flight of four WWII era P-47 Thunderbolts execute the Missing Man Formation for the opening of the Chino Planes of Fame Air Show. Sorry about the dude blocking the view; there's always one rude one in the crowd but the Jugs pop out at the right moment.

Two of the Greatest Generation live across the street from me. Jack Garrett, combat vet, USN, S1C - served on Bouganville, Guadacanal, Green Island, Rabaul to name a few of his stops. Mrs. Johnson's husband, who is ill, is a US Marine and was stationed on the Big E during the Battle of Midway.
