August 14, 2011 / Seal Beach, CA - 66th Wedding Anniversary and 88th Birthday
Had the honor of having breakfast this morning with this couple from the Greatest Generation. He is a Marine who served on the USS Enterprise at Midway and the Solomon Islands campaign. She was a registered nurse. They also live across the street from me and were neighbors with another dear friend and WWII combat vet, Jack Garrett, who passed away during the Christmas Holidays last year.
Update: Nov. 17, 2012 - I have decided to write about his heroics and life... Please feel free to visit: p47koji.wordpress.com/2012/11/16/mr-johnson-usmc-part-i/

Dad at likely the Presidio, early 1947, while in the Military Intelligence Service Language School (MISLS). He says he received little boot camp and only three months in class before shipping out. Notice his uniform is absent of any rank or patch.

My dad and his cousin Masako who lived in Hiroshima during the war. Notice the famous Hiroshima torii (or gate) in the background. This was taken in the spring of 1948. His mom and dad's home was about 4 to 5 miles north of the torii and was damaged by the atomic bomb blast. Dad was in the Minidoka Internment Camp in Idaho for Japanese Americans at that time.
