My favorite hangout. I spent hundreds of bucks there on beer, osake and good country food. Mama-san is standing next to me on the right; I guess I had the hots for her a bit. :) It was about a eight minute walk from the dorm.

The picture was taken a few days before I returned to the US in April 1975.　As near as I can tell, the basic building is still standing and in use as a "donburi" eatery. It is about 200' to the right of the post office there in Kunugida near the school on Kitano Highway.

Standing out front of our dorm on a hot summer day in 1974. I'm on the right; I was also the arm wrestling champ of the school. It must have been all the McDonalds hamburgers I ate - I think there were only one or two in whole country of Japan at that time.

Having been almost 40 years, the old dorm is no longer standing. In its place, I found a condo built pretty much on the same spot. 東京都八王子市館町5 chintai.door.ac/detail/free2719599.htm

We weren't exactly allowed to have booze in the dorms but... since my Uncle Paul worked as a civilian employee for the USAF in Tachikawa, booze was in good supply! These were my closest buddies at that time. For the record, the one at the bottom left (Teruya) and the one top right (Ito) and me - nobody could outdrink the three of us. :)
