These belonged to my great-grandfather, Wakio Shibayama. He was reportedly an art professor. This is painted by brush on extremely thin and fragile rice paper. I have hundreds of these and I believe these are compilations of artwork from his students. They are painted on both sides of the paper, likely due to the extreme paper shortage of that time. The booklets are stamped with my great-grandfather's "hanko", or name stamp.

I write short stories of World War II and how it affected my family - half of whom were in Japan while the other half were living in the US. In this series, I am writing of the horrors of war as experienced by my Aunt Eiko who was in Tokyo during the bombing as well as a young American pilot forced to perform his duty as a B-29 pilot and captain.
