Cleo the calico was always jumping poor Will, the tabby. Will was generally docile; he put up with a huge amount of abuse. He would sometimes swat back, more often run for it. Here I caught him swatting back...

Today's offering is a potpourri of five photos from my film years. Here, a three day old daffodil looks through a window pane covered with condensation: winter on Vancouver Island. Kevin instinctively knew what I wanted when I asked him to move closer to the clock; he dropped his smile and allowed me to try for something more symbolic than simple portraiture. I intentionally placed him a little closer to the camera than the clock face, to keep him in sharp focus and allow the clock to be slightly out. Thus the eye keeps returning to Kevin's face.

Scanned from the original Fujichrome Provia 100 slide and converted to black & white in CS4, light sepia wash added. Photographed near Danville, Quebec (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2003 James R. Page - all rights reserved.

Natural forces always amaze me. We see them in action everywhere. I found these tiny plants pushing up through dried mud in the desert at Big Bend National Park, Texas. The original was shot vertically, but by cropping the top portion I have shortened the dark vertical line at the left and made the little plants more prominent.
