In Mud Volcano Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park. In 1870 when the Washburn Expedition visited, mud splashed from a cone as much as 100 feet up, making a tremendous racket. It evidently blew up within the next two years, with the cone disappearing, leaving what is now shown.
