History of an East Coast, South Florida, Ocean Inlet and Lighthouse ~ This would later become the Intracoastal Waterway, running just inside the coast, from Florida to Maine. It shows very shallow depths in this survey as indicated by the low numbers. There were many sand bars in the middle of all of these river branches that were later widened and dredged. The red mark is the future lighthouse location. It would be another 23 years after this survey, until the lighthouse was finally built in 1907.
