I can't remember whether this was the Cressbrook or Litton tunnel on the Monsal Trail. The air must have been warming slightly with day break and occasionally there was a smashing sound as another huge icicle dropped like a spear. Walking through this bit was a little worrying. You wanted to look up to check where they are so that you could avoid walking directly under them, but you certainly didn't want many kilos of very sharp ice to spear down into your eye as you looked up. I was lucky. I got the shots, but also I got out just as a Landrover with flashing lights arrived. It was the Health & Safety Police who pulled up, armed with long poles to knock the icicles down.
