It was a busy day with five cars to prepare in a matter of hours for airfreight to destinations in the Far East including two RangeRover Evoques, two brand new Porsche 911's and this McLaren MP4-12C in stunning Volcano Red. Here TQ Express take posession of the car prior to aviation security and dangerous goods inspection, before delivery to the airline.

500bhp racing car for the road
0-62mph in 3.9 seconds
Max speed 193 mph
RRP (UK) GBP £128,466
The 911 GT3 RS 4.0 – to give it its full title – When it went on sale in July it was expected to become one of the world’s ultimate track day cars, in a limited production run of 600 cars.
Almost every component has been honed by Porsche’s motorsport division, including the 4-litre flat-six engine lifted straight from its 911 GT3 RSR racing car. It also delivers its maximum power at a spine tingling 8,250 rpm.
Zero to 62mph takes just 3.9 seconds, with gear changes down to the driver, thanks to a six-speed manual ‘box. It has 56bhp more than the standard 911 GT3 RS, which cost around £19,000 less.
The adjustable suspension has been revised to accommodate for the bigger engine and extra power, while a lightweight carbon fibre, bonnet, bucket seats, front wings and plastic rear windows keep its weight down to 1,360kg, which is 10kg less than the standard 3.8-litre GT3 RS. As with the standard GT3 RS, there are no rear seats – instead you’ll find a roll cage and fire extinguisher.
Even the aerodynamics have been honed to suit track use, with front bodywork adaptations and a revised rear spoiler which now provide 190kg more downforce at top speed.
Well, I only got a taster of that today as I tried (very hard) to swish the fuel around in the tank to get it down to 1/4 full as is required to comply with airline dangerous goods regulations for its flight to Hong Kong...................................
If you are in the business of airfreighting cars there is one particularly frustrating feature of the 911. It is repeatedly stressed to customers that cars MUST not have more than a 1/4 tank of petrol, otherwise the airlines will reject the car as it does not comply with IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. So when cars are still delivered to the airport with full tanks it has to be pumped out, rather than take it for a long drive or return it to the client at considerable cost and missing the booked flights. So for those not 'in the know' they will find that with the 911, the fuel gauge does not go down to 1/4 or lower when fuel is pumped out. It will not re-set to show the real level. Even when it has stopped running because there is no fuel, it still shows more than 1/4 tank (as was the case with this car). But it is the fuel guage the airline measure it on and so swishing the tank is done as a last resort to 'work' the gauge down in an attempt to complete all the procedures required to get it on a particular flight.

The framing is a bit naff but I felt the shapes echoed well some of the styling cues on the car. I must admit I am begining to find such cars less interesting. It must be an age thing. for me the Aventador is too overstyled.

The song did rather better making it to #1 in the US and #3 in the UK charts in 1967.
She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes
Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you...
Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothings lost
At such a cost
There's no time to lose, I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time
Lose your dreams
And you will lose your mind.
Ain't life unkind?
Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you...
