A few weeks ago a friend of mine and fellow hobbyist started up a new subreddit. r/afol is a new subreddit geared more for builders and hobbyists, not just people who want to show off how much they bought at the store.

It's been going strong for over a week now, so I felt it was time to spruce up the place a bit. I've replaced the normal reddit icon with this, added a specialized title, and made the little upvote/downvote arrows. As the weeks and months progress I'm sure I'll make more changes to the look of the place.

This was created mainly with two ovoid shapes. These are based on the Lowell Sphere (by Bruce Lowell), with a little modification (before the obvious ones) to that technique from myself.

To see what the original alien logo looks like, just go to the main reddit site.

Instead of the front-on shot, I decided to go with this angle for the actual image on r/afol. I felt that this has a more dynamic quality to it.

This is the title I designed for r/afol. For the final image, I scooted the 'L' in a bit.

r/afol is a new subreddit geared more for actual builders and hobbyists, not just people who want to show off how much they bought at the store.

I'm not planning to make instructions for this, but with it taken apart in chunks perhaps the more brickly-inclined could take inspiration.
As I said before, the basic construction is inspired by the Lowell Sphere design. This is where you use build on all six 'sides' of the sphere, and use jumper plates to achieve half-stud spaces, like the lower part of the mouth.
