Florence:
Built on the site of an Etruscan settlement, Florence, symbol of the Renaissance, rose to economic and cultural pre-eminence under the Medici in the 15th and 16th centuries. Its 600 years of extraordinary artistic activity can be seen above all in the 13thC cathedral (duomo), the church of Santa Croce, the Uffizi Gallery, the work of great masters such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, and Michaelangelo.
We'll explore all these.
And we'll see the bridging of the Arno linking the city-centre to its vital river, and the world exceptional townscape, streetscape, and civilised structure. Sculpture, painting, setting, architecture, social activity all together as one.
In this shot, that yellow archway over the road will be part of the Vasari Corridor.
