Beautifully set Punakha Dzong at the river confluence.
The dzong was constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, in 1637–38. It is the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan.
The cantilever bridge has recently been rebuilt following flash flood. Traditional style but with modern engineering detail.
The famous jacarandas along the Dzong frontage will shortly be due to flourish lilac.
