John Anderson’s Wharetane, Clive Rd Mt Eden Auckland, dates from 1928. Two-storey in concrete, it’s uncompromisingly modern but has been kept behind Virginia creeper much of the time. Exposed rafters and large plate-glass windows go with an emphasis on horizontals. Modern monolithic for the times.
I gather the roof was re-done at some stage, and there was minor restoration work in 2010.

Two-storey in concrete, it’s uncompromisingly modern but has been kept behind Virginia creeper much of the time. Exposed rafters and large plate-glass windows go with an emphasis on horizontals. Yet there were some Maori motifs in minimal decoration. Modern monolithic for the times.
