As detail maps of remote southern Ethiopia are hard to find, it pays to add together understanding from several sources. This is a topographic detail (Mapping Authority) and though not directly our purpose, at least this one's accurate.

Handcrafts, Ari village near Jinka.

The Ari/Aari have the largest population of any of the ethno-linguistic groups of the Omo Valley. Their influence extends from the northern border of Mago National Park into the highlands around Jinka and Key Afer, and even farther north.

The highland-dwelling Ari around Jinka and their lowland counterparts have quite different economies, but both are mixed subsistence farmers who grow various grains, keep livestock, produce excellent honey, and supplement with craftwork. Near Jinka they wear more western clothing.

Pottery, decorated gourds, wood carving, etc.

Click flickr's + cursor to Enlarge, then move mouse to explore detail.
