Sumur/Sumar is about 20 kms from Khalsar. The name Sumar means "three rivers" and probably refers to the confluence of the Nubra and Shyok rivers close by. Sumar is famous for the Samstangling Gompa (monastery) -- photos of monks and novices there in my previous Set/Album.

Near Sumar is the damaged Zamskhang Palace (above). In recent years a large portion, on the right side of my photos, was washed away.
The Zamskhang Palace was the former residence of the king of Nubra. Now only the remains can be seen. Interestingly, the place is surrounded by tiny stupas filled with votive clay tablets left by pilgrims on the Silk Road.
