Notes: The London Stereoscopic Comp blindstamp on right recto edge. Captain Harrison was appointed by Brunel as the Captain of the Great Eastern but drowned in Southampton Water in January 1860, before the ship's maiden voyage. This is the version produced after the captain's death and is labeled 'Photographed by special permission of the Board of Directors. The Late Captain Harrison'. Every published version of this stereocard has a curved black line on the right image which was caused by a crack in the glass neg, this version does not. However, it was probably not produced before the negative was damaged as it is the post mortem version. This is possibly made from a second negative - albeit taken at the same time as the first as even the creases in his trousers are identical.
