Northern 142025 arrives at Rotherham Central working 2C65, 10:30 Sheffield – Hull, 16th July 2019.

Unit History
The Class 142 (Pacer) was built by British Rail Engineering in Derby between 1985 and 1987 and the train body is based on that of the Leyland National bus. 142025 is from the first batch of fifty units, built in 1985/86 and amazingly, for what was at the time a cheap and nasty stopgap, is still going strong after well over thirty years service. It also one of thirteen units (142015 – 142027) that were delivered in “chocolate and cream” livery and allocated to Plymouth for use on the Cornish Branches. They were not a success on these duties and were soon transferred north to Neville Hill/Newton Heath.

With the Pacer fleet due to withdrawn by the end of 2019 142025 was one of the first of the Northern Pacer fleet to be “withdrawn” when it was stored a month later at Heaton and is unlikely to see any further use.
