Scarborough North Bay Railway diesel hydraulic 4-6-2 1932 Triton being turned at Scalby Mills, 2nd June 2021. The North Bay Railway is a 20 inch gauge miniature railway built in 1931 and runs for almost a mile between Peasholm Park and Scalby Mills in the North Bay area of Scarborough. It opened with one locomotive, 1931 Neptune built by Hudswell Clarke, for a cost of £1000. After the successful first season, it was decided that another locomotive was required, and 1932 Triton was built by Hudswell Clarke for the 1932 season. Interestingly this identical locomotive at £1500 cost 50% more than Neptune. Both locomotives are still in service today and Neptune is the oldest surviving operational diesel hydraulic locomotive in the world.
